¡@¡@For most of its history, the FRI's achievements in marine fisheries, fishery biology, seafood processing, and aquaculture industries in Taiwan have grown steadily, and at certain times dramatically. The FRI's role in marine fisheries, fishery biology, seafood technology, and aquaculture development is underscored by the many successes and breakthroughs that it has achieved so far. At several points in its history, Taiwan has become a world leader in aquaculture, both in production and technology. This growth and recognition have been greatly influenced by the activities of research and development by the FRI.

¡@¡@Today, the FRI views growth as having limitless opportunities for improvement and transfer of technology. The Institute emerges as the nation's center of R&D for fisheries, seafood technology, and aquaculture. It supports the exchange of progressive technology to other countries that are lacking such expertise. Extension programs definitely play a vital role in supporting the transfer of technology to aquaculture farmers and practitioners in other countries. With its newly recognized role as a major supplier of progressive technology in fisheries, Taiwan aims to promote international cooperation and exchange of information through avenues such as conferences, symposia, and training programs to help other countries in which fisheries are taking off, so that they can learn from the Taiwanese experience.

¡@¡@The FRI will continue to pursue leadership and focus its R&D efforts on fisheries, seafood processing, and aquaculture technology. It will also assume a responsibility for promoting these ideas in the world.
