For the purpose of sustainable fishery, it is a urgent need to make conservation strategies for fish resources of nearshore and offshore fisheries off southwestern Taiwan waters. However, there is no large scale scientific reports of fishing season and area, and spawning grounds, which are necessary for making policy. Our study focus on the fishing season and area, and spawning grounds of main target species of demersal fish off southwestern Taiwan waters. The results can be considered as the scientific evidence for stock assessment in the future.
In this study, we used the database to analyze information such as CPUE, fishery location, and spawning hotspots of benthic economic fish captured by different fishing methods. We completed the fishery period survey of nine species such as Priacanthus macracanthus, Trichiurus spp., Psenopsis anomala, Atrobucca nibe, Dentex hypselosomus, Leiognathus equulus, Johnius dussumieri, Terapon jarbua, and Saurida spp. And analysis the position of seasonal fishing grounds and spawning hotspots , such as Priacanthus macracanthus, Trichiurus spp., Psenopsis anomala, Atrobucca nibe, the geographical scale unit is 1 minute. The spawning locations are mainly concentrated outside Kaohsiung Port 1-Port 2 and in the southern waters of Ryukyu. It will help to plan the management strategy for important benthic economic fish species in the future, and determine the management time and management space. It is expected that the research results will provide a reference for the improvement of current management policies and the future management planning for fishing methods, fishing grounds and fishing seasons.
