The objectives of the project are to establish the SPF broodstock of Litopenaeus vannamei and to improve high growth and high reproductive performance through selective breeding. The results of this year were following: 1. Introduce of broodstock: five batches of broodstock were introduced and kept in Tungkang Biotechnology Research Center, Taiwan Fisheries Research Institute. 2. Diseases diagnose: broodstock were screened with WSSV, TSV, YHV/GAV, IMNV and IHHNV virus, EMS pathogen, Vibrio parahaemolyticus and EHP, microsporidian parasite using qPCR . 3. Selection for high reproductive performance: the number of spawn were highly variable within 130 females used in this study, in which, 9 no spawn at all; 21 spawn more than 11 times, which spawn 298 times in total and represents 40% of the grand total of 741 times. 4.Selection for high growth: This study using the offspring of three batches with high reproductive performance to go through 3-step high growth selection program. The selective pressure for the first and the second step of selection were 22-34% and 25-30% for male, 23-29% for female, respectively. 5.The efficiency of selective breeding: The strain of S101 high reproductive times had better selection response and realized heritability, 7.13% and 0.24, respectively. 6.Culture performance with different strains: Compared culture performance between local breeding (2-3generation) and F1 of imported broodstock or imported PL5-10 at density 200/m2 for 17 weeks. The results showed k103 F3 had the as great yield (kg/m2) as the two strain of imported stocks. In addition, the final weight of k103 F3 was significantly higher (P <0.05) and the FCR was lower, indicating that the domestic breeding germplasm culture benefit is obviously better.
