In this study, 16 cruises, include 746 stations, werecarried on board Fishery Research 1 and 2, and 284 eel larvae of Anguilliformeswere sampled during 2007-2016 in the surrounding waters of Taiwan. The leptocephalus of Anguilla japonica had not caught in oursampling cruises, and the dominant categories of Anguilliformes eel including Ophichthidae, Congridae, Muraenidae, Muraenesocidaeand Nettastomatidae. Two hypotheses were made according to our samplingresults: 1) The leptocephali of Anguilla japonica larva distributed in the waters deeper than 200m; 2) Anguillajaponica larva metamorphose metamorphosed before it were transported intothe surrounding waters of Taiwan. There still have no catch data of Anguilla japonica larva in this year becausethe fisherman of Penghu has not start fishing on it. There have 12 Anguilla japonica larva caught in thewater of Cheng-Kung Bay, theirtotal length varied between 55.2-59.7mm, and the mean total length was 57.7±1.5mm.
