Cephalopholis boenak, commonly called Chocolate hind, is a small body
size (Maximum size: 26 cm TL) species with wide geographical
distribution; Coral trout Plectropomus leopardus is a high valuable
species with increasing market demand, while it was listed as Near
Threatened at 2004 IUCN Red List. Both species are still abundant at
northern Taiwan and Peng Hu, however, the knowledge of biology and
ecology is poorly researched and understood. Therefore, the aims of this
project are to (1) sieve out the specific microsatellite of C. boenak as
genetic marker applicable for the genetic variation, (2) investigate the
biological characters, such as growth rate, gonad development of C.
boenak , (3) investigate the genetic variation of P. leopardus by mtDNA
control region D-loop gene. And finally supply the reliable data for
assessment and management of coral reef fisheries resource and
utilization of aquaculture.
