The Japanese eel is one of the most important economicaquaculture species of east Asia. All seedling used for aquaculture farm is completelydependent on wild glass eels caught in estuaries and coastal areas. However ,natural sources of glass eels have drastically declined in recent years. Therefore, it is necessary to establish a method for seed production of eelelvers that is not dependent on wild catch. This study was conducted to explore the suitable methods for inducedspawning of the japanese eel (Anguillajaponica). Repeated injections ofsalmonpituitary homogenates mixed gonadotropin can induce spermatogensis in male eelsand vitellogenesis in female eels, and female eels ovulation can be achieved byinjection of 17α,20β-dihydroxy-4-pregnen-3-one (DHP) . This year we injected 140eels. Repeatinjection of 5 to 15 times more than 85% of the male eel began spermiation ,parts of the female eels development to mature and ovulatebut eggs differtnt in sizes and poor quality.
