In this study, the pituitary glands were collected from dolphin fish, Coryphaena hippurus and subjected to the artificial induction of Japanese eels (Anguilla japonica) maturation. The gonadosomatic index(GSI) of female Coryphaena hippurus ranged from 0.49-5.8 with an average of 3.39 ± 1.17, and GSI of male Coryphaena hippurus ranged from 0.24 to 1.60 with an average of 0.54 ± 0.21. The histology of the Coryphaena hippurus gonads showed that more oocytes were developed into the vitellogenic stage in those fishes which had higher GSI. The gonads stayed mainly in the primary oocyte stage in those fishes which had the lower GSI. We used the pituitary glands of the fishes which had higher GSI and then performed the artificial maturation of Japanese eels. The results showed that the pectoral fins of the eels began to darken and bellies became soft after 6-7 injections of the female dolphin fish pituitaries. The average GSI of eel was 2.01 ± 0.21 after 13injections of the female dolphinfish pituitaries. We will then evaluate the effect of the artificial maturation on the Japanese eels with Coryphaena hippurus pituitary .
