Due to the economic growth and concerns of environmental protection, the issue of foodsafety is much emphasized than ever, in more and more countries. However, thosemajor aquatic food importing countries, such as U.S., Japan, and European Communityare enforcing more conservative quarantine on the imports, and Japan besides Europehave recently embargoed the eels and shrimps from China by reason of chemicalresidual problems. All these lessons tell that future aquatic products ought to beenvironmentally friendly. As to Taiwan, because of her membership of WTO, herdomestic as well as overseas aquatic market is confronted with the severe competitioncaused by the low price of the like products from other member countries, althoughthere has been a striking part in her aquaculture that most of its products, includingseeds, are oriented to export. When it becomes a worldwide phenomenon thatconsumers' constant care has been not merely about the nutrition and deliciousness ofaquatic food but the safety, and when the above market competitions are unavoidable, itis necessary for us to make our aquaculture industry stably and sustainablydevelopmental by enhancing our products' quality, and strengthening our inspectionand quarantine system.
