Light fisheries in coastal and offshore waters are important fisheries in Taiwan. Theirannual production is about 25,000 metric tons. The fishing ground is mainly distributedin the waters off northern Taiwan and the waters from southern part of Peng-Hu to theFormosa banks. For the need of fisheries management, how to define the capacity offishing lamps and intensive to collect the information of fishing ground, we need inputmore research in our future years. A study on the luring efficiency of fishing lamps inthe light fisheries, and investigation on the herring and squid fisheries resources in Peng-Hu waters, both are mainly purpose of this project. Their outlines are listed as follow:1. The luring efficiency of fishing lamps in the light fisheriesThe purpose of this study is trying to understand the input and output of light fisheriesin the waters of northern Taiwan. It also provided fishing mechanism during the fishingseason of light fisheries in the waters of northern Taiwan. We will also join with thesampling boat and have task to measure the illumination of fishing lamps either on deckor on underwater. The information of catch data is also collected. The hydrographic and plankton data will collected monthly by the R/V "Hai-Chien" in the waters alongLatitude 25°40′~26°20′, Longitude 121°00′~123°00′during the squidfishing season. Meanwhile, the capacity of fishing lamps of all light fishing boat willinvestigated in local ports of this area mentioend above. After integrated analysis, theluring effect of different capacity of fishing lamps in this fisheries and its totaleconomical output will be clarified in this final report. Those information will goodenough provided evidence to support the regulations of light fisheries.2.Studies on the herring and squid fisheries resources in Peng-Hu watersWe want to investigate the waters off southern part of Peng-Hu to the Formosa banks, and we will effectuate the investigations in those area in the following years. In order tobuild up the squid fishery's basic database, as the resource reference, the items as below:1.The change of seasons and seas in observed points.2.The distributions of animality nekton and alevin.3.The variation of flow velocity.4.Mainly fish species.5.The confirmation of squid's seasonal reproductive.6.The analysis of statistics' data in gained fish.
