The sonar sounding records of the present study show that the sakura shrimp (Sergialucens) is distributed in the waters around the Guei-shan Islet and undertakes anapparent diurnal vertical migration. Its vertical distribution range is between 150 mand 350 m, but concentrates at 175±10 m during the day and moves upward to 75-100m at night for feeding. This year we collected a total of 36 hauls by IKMT and foundthat the vertical distribution range of sakura shrimp is deeper than previousinvestigations. Three new records of Oegopsida from the eastern Taiwan are included in the presentstudy. They are Moroteuthis robusta (Verrill, 1876), Pholidoteuthis boschmai Adam,1950, and Chiroteuthis acanthoderma (Lu, 1977). The first two of these species havestrong musculature and may be potential fisheries resources. C. acanthoderma plays animportant role as predator on crustaceans, fishes, and cephalopods, and, in themeantime, as prey for large predators, such as marine mammals, sea birds, tunas andbonito, etc. in the waters east of Taiwan.
