大西洋長鰭鮪以北緯5度為界，區分為南北系群。而大西洋長鰭鮪資源，長期以來即為我國所開發利用，我國也是本資源的主要利用國之一。南大西洋長鰭鮪資源，長期以來，主要係由台灣、巴西以鮪延繩釣漁法及南非、納米比亞的活餌竿釣漁法進行開發利用。近十年來，南大西洋長鰭鮪年產量約在25,000~40,000公噸，而我國的漁獲量約佔總產量的60~70%為南大西洋長鰭鮪資源最主要的資源利用國。為有效永續利用本資源，落實提昇本資源評估研究的精確度，俾提供據以制訂合理管理措施之科學依據，是本論文的主要目標。

The Atlantic albacore is considered as two distict stocks, seperated by 5 °N, namelysouth and north Atlantic albcore.The South Atlantic albacore resource was utilized mainly by Taiwanese and Brazilianlongliners and the baitboats from South Africa and Namibia. The annual South Atlanticalbacore production ranged from 25,000 to 40,000 mt in last decade, and more than60% was caught by Taiwanese longliners. The main purpose of this study was toevaluate the stock status of South Atlantic albacore and to provide better scientificcriteria needed for management purpose.
