This study was conducted to investigate the usage of bamboo charcoal as feed additive for Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus). Some physical and chemical properties of charcoal from moso bamboo were also determined to establish the standard condition to produce the charcoal. The results indicated that the carbonization temperature of bamboo at 700±50℃ was suitable for preparing the charcoal used in aquafeed. A growth trial was practiced to compare the effects of bamboo charcoal supplementary in diets on the growth performance of the fish. The results showed that weight gain, specific growth rate and daily feed intake of fish fed diets containing 3% charcoal or 2% charcoal soaked with bamboo vinegar were superior to those of fish fed the control diet. In addition, the bamboo charcoal soaked with bamboo vinegar significantly further improved the growth performance of the fish.
