In order to promoting the oyster industry in Taiwan, the massive production of cultchless spat of oyster was conducted. Many problems were encountered such as worse growth and survival due to the high water temperature in summer and fouling organisms. The present study was divided into three parts concerning the effects of f water depth, cover or not and different stocking density on the growth and survival of cultchless spat of oyster to estimate the feasibility of oyster culture in Taiwan. The first experiment was the effects of water depth on the growth and survival of cultchless spat of oyster. It was found that the oyster stocking at the upper water had better growth than those at the middle water and the on-bottom.The second experiment was focused on the effect of cover or not on the growth and survival of cultchless spat of oyster. The oyster stocking in an uncover basket got better growth than in an cover basket. The third experiment was conducted to determine the best stocking density of oyster. The result demonstrated that the oyster in s stocking density of 50 individuals in a basket had a best growth.
