In order to establish basic information of deep-sea fisheries resources in the continental slope off eastern Taiwan, a survey was conducted by Fisheries Research Institute with R/V fisheries researcher 1 in 2007. A beam trawl was used for sampling of benthic fauna. Among those species identified, there are 38 fish species belong to 23 families, 17 crustacean species of 12 families and 21 molluscan species of 15 families. The results show that the investigation area has high species diversity but low in richness.As for sampling deep sea fishing boats of Su Ao area, Diamondback squid jigging is the main commercial fishery, followed by deep sea longline fishing. The best fishing season for diamondback squid is between December and June of the next year. The CPUE of diamondback squid fishing is 98.21 kg per thousand hooks per hour. In summer season from July to November, fishing boats changed their fishing gear to longline, the CPUE of longline fishing was 32.69 kg per thousand hooks per hour, and the catches are mainly the benthic fishes. About 37 species of 26 families were found.
