Under the global tendency of gradually reducing use of antibiotics, this study, basing on the perspective of preventive medicine, aims to develop aquatic synbiotics as feed additives, by the natural supplements to induce and strengthen the native defensive ability of fish and shrimp against infection and diseases. In screen of probiotic LAB, the four of LAB strains which could withstand high acid, bile salt and salt conditions were selected. The prebiotics will be prepared with the sources of functional algal extracts, on several probiotic strains and to evaluate the feasibility for new prebiotic materials. Thus combining the probiotics and prebiotics to make to 1-2 formulas of synbiotics. The synbiotics’ function and safety will then be evaluated with in vitro cell culture model, result shown have higher cell viability, NO inhibit, and antioxidant activity. The developed synbiotics formula(s) may offer the aquaculture farmer safe feed additives, to replace or reduce antibiotics/drugs use and to improve aquatic food safety. Thus not only the damage to the creatures and environments by abusing antibiotics can be reduced, but also the economy values of the fishery products can be elevated.
