Feminization of the Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) fry, reproduced by male YY crossed with female-reversed XY, was implemented.
768 fry were divided into 3 groups, each 256 fry, group A and group B were fed with eel feed mixed with 100 ppm 17α-ethynylestradiol, group A lasted for 45 days and group B for 60 days, group C was a control.
After feminization, the fish were fed with perch feed only. For fish of group A, mean body weight was 195.3g, with 141 females and 61 males, sex-reversed rate of 69.8%, deformity rate of 13.4%, in group B, mean body weight was 198.6g, with 165 females and 39 males, sex-reversed rate of 80.9%, deformity rate of 21.1%; the female fish were stocked for maturity. As for the control group, mean body weight was 217.8g, with all 232 males, no deformity.
