In order to understand hybrid vigor, we utilized progeny of from different sources crossing, analyzed the characteristics of growth small abalone, Haliotis diversicolor, and improvement of body shape in red tilapia, Oreochromis spp. : (1) Small abalone, hybrids of small abalone from three different sources mated, strain 1: hybrid crossing female farmed from Taiwan with the wild male from Japan; strain 2: inbred from farmed of Taiwan and strain 3 crossing wild female with farmed male all from Taiwan. We compared the shell length for 8 months since 3-months-old. Strain 1, the initial shell length 22.13± 5.7mm to the final shell length 36.26± 5.77mm; Strain 2, 14.17± 3.9mm to 33.06± 4.13mm and Strain 3 13.25±2.9mm to 31.73± 3.54mm. In survival rate, across 8 months, strain 1 is 97%, strain 2 is 83% and strain 3 is 98%. The characteristics of growth and survival rate is best with strain 1, strain 3 takes second place, strain 2 is the worst, these results showed that the far genetic relationship, the best performance on growth and survival rate. (2) Red tilapia, crossing red tilapia TsR strain with CP1 tilapia strain introduced from commercial strain, via line breeding, 4 different mating: forward hybrid (TsR♀xCP1♂)and reverse hybrid (TsR♂xCP1♀), inbreeding: TsR inbred and CP1 inbred, We analyzed the measurement of morphometric characteristics and statistics, showed that there were significantly (p<0.01) between TsR and CP1 strain on the body length and height. TsR body shape was a slender and CP1 belongs to the round high. Utilizing RAPD-PCR and Un-weighted Pair Group Method Analysis (UGPMA), when the genetic distance 0.26, we can isolate TsR inbred from reciprocally hybrid (TsR♀xCP1♂, TsR♂xCP1♀)and CP1 inbred.
