Owing to the ecological environment of fishing grounds in the southwestern waters ofTaiwan been acutely destroy and over fishing, the fish resources of trawl fishery weredistinctly exhausted. The catchable stocks are gradually decreasing and the fishingconditions of trawlers are steadily worse. Keep collecting the statistics from fish landingmarket and establishing the data base. Select the economical fishes for biological study.To understand the status of fish resource of small trawl fishery and solve the difficultiesof trawler operation, these experiments were carried out. It is needed to studymonitoring and stock assessment on trawl fishery resource in the southwestern waters ofTaiwan. These investigated data will provide the fishery administration and will be abasis for establishing the management policy for trawl fishery.This program is divided into the following four main subjects: (1) understanding theactual operating state of trawl fishery, (2) analyzing the construction of fishing groundsand the change of fishery resources, (3) studying the biological characteristics of fishes;(4) establishing the database of the fishes. It is expected that this study will beconcentrated on assessment effectively of the stock, establishing the productive model ofthis fishery. The research results will be offered to management regime to develop thisfishery of southwestern Taiwan.
