The life expectancy of sub-surface FAD (fish aggregating device) had been successfullyincreased in this program. The efficacy of long-life FAD was very significant foraggregating the yellowfin and skipjack tunas. Therefore, we have created many newfishing grounds for offshore fisheries by deploying the FADs. The fishermen are moreand more interest in using the FADs, recently. In this year, the work of deploying FADsin the coastal water of southwestern Taiwan will be continued, and the possibility ofsetting FADs in the coastal water of east Taiwan will be estimated, we plan to deploythree sets of FADs in the coastal waters of Taiwan totally. Beside, for the purpose oftransfering technique, the low cost sub-surface FADs will be developed to help thefishermen societies to design and deploy their FADs in future.
