This study was conducted to investigate the effects of different dietary charcoal additives on growth performance, body indices and blood traits of hybrid tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus × O. aureus). Six diets containing defatted soybean meal as the major protein source were fed to the fish with mean body weight of 143g for 112 days. The specialized bamboo charcoal powder including vinegar liquid was supplemented to the experimental diets at levels of 0.5, 1.0 and 2.0% respectively. Other two experimental diets were formulated to contain 2% bamboo charcoal or wood charcoal. The diet without any supplemented charcoal was served as the control. The results of growth trial showed that the diet supplemented with 1.0 or 2.0% specialized bamboo charcoal powder soaked with bamboo vinegar enhanced the growth performance, feed efficiency and daily feed intake of the fish. Significant decreases in the viscerosomatic index and hepatosomatic index and increases in the relative intestine length were found in the fish received diets with 1.0% and 2.0% specialized bamboo charcoal powder including vinegar liquid. Moreover, dietary supplementations of charcoal powder did not affect the blood traits of experimental fish.
